Job Description |
1. Prepare the dugout for
the game, get bats out of black bag, helmets out, catchers gear out,
lineup on fence, girls situated.
2. During the game, help the catcher get ready for the next
inning.
3. Keep the girls in order with one "on deck," one
"in the whole," and one "your next in the whole."
You'll quickly know which girls you'll need to start earlier than
the others (the one that takes a while to find everything).
4. Keep order in the dugout, teach the girls how to put their
stuff down so they know where it is when they need it later.
5. At two outs, remind the girls to get ready for the next inning
with glove, visors ready. I'd like the girls to quickly run out on
the field at the start of the inning. Girls playing First base, Right
Field and Left Field should have a ball in the glove when they run
out so they can get in as much throwing in between innings as possible.
6. If it's too quiet get the girls to start a cheer (monitor
the cheers making sure there are no offensive words or cheers being
used). Sometimes, the batter really needs her teammates to help her.
It's nice for the team to recognize that.
7. Help with first aid if it's needed. If we need ice there
are ziplocs in the Snack Bar that can be filled with ice. At Richmond
and Middle School there are supposed to be ice packs in the shed.
I have a shed key if needed.
8. Help with girls being down because of something done during
the game (or anything).
9. Let me know that day if you hear any girls saying things
to other teammates that may hurt their feelings. I'll need to put
a squash to that quickly!
10. Remind the girls to keep their dugout clean. After the game
help us pick up any remaining trash.
11. Monitor the girls to make sure they are not leaving the
dugout without one of the coaching staff's approval. The coaching
staff is the Manager, the two Coaches and the Chaperone. We are all
covered by the League's insurance and are the only adults allowed
in the dugout during a game. There should be no other kids in the
dugout either.
12. After the game, pack up the equipment bag. We will need
to get out of the dugout quickly as there will usually be a game right
afterwards. Help the girls, if necessary, pack up and move out. We
normally have a team meeting afterwards up in the stands.
13. Above all, have fun being there!!
